My house has wheels

Pills

I don't know whether I had 3 or 4 bypasses, maybe more. Coming out of surgery was sure rough, though. Oh, everything worked well, but then came a litany of pills that I couldn't swallow, nor keep down. A fix for the problem was a nurse change, who was making the situation worse. After four days I was able to take food, as well as keep down some of the pills. But today I needed more so we're experimenting with taking some of the meds via IV. I am...

Hospital tomorrow

My surgeon had to change his appointment with me again today, and then added some tests he hadn't thought of before, all of which added up to gobbling my entire day for something that should have taken a half hour. I have rides arranged to get me in in plenty of time, and I figure the doc will be delayed as he usually is. No matter, I won't be caring about anything until Wednesday morning sometime. My intent is post something online once I can....

Getting ready

Next week some people I don't know are going to turn off my brain, stop my heart, paralyze my body, and halt breathing. Seems a lot like death to me. They promise it will only last 6 hours. Now, who are these people again? Where will I be? Which is a good incentive to do all that which everyone puts off until it's an emergency like living wills, wills, organ donation sign-ups, and the like. Of everyone that puts such things off, I'm the best as...

Surgery schedule

I finally got the new schedule for my heart surgery. I meet the doctor on Monday, and go in for the operation on Tuesday. It's scheduled so that I can get there by ferry without having to stay overnight in Seattle. They guess I'll be in the hospital for 5 nights, but this is subject to change.

Wildfire in the Rain Forest

A small fire has broken out in the Olympic National Park, deep within the wilderness portion, often referred to as the rain forest, the wettest spot in the lower 48. It's been burning for about a month, and there is no access to it. It will burn until autumn rains come to put it out. Experts have been foolishly quoted as saying "there hasn't been a fire here in 600 years". Well, if you want to be factual about it, there hasn't been a fire here...

Sunday

When I left for Seattle this morning it was raining here, the first real rain the Olympic Peninsula has seen in 5 weeks. Not enough to matter at all, but the smoke from Vancouver Island is now cleared out. It was fun to go to the party for Maizie (age 7) and Amos (age 3), as it's a good chance to see a bunch of people and kids I've come to know. There were even some rain drops in Seattle today; I think we counted three. I hope that tomorrow...

Pot: Washington law changes with great benefits

IRS rules say that if you make money in illegal activity you must still pay taxes (think Al Capone) on your profits. Usually profits are defined as revenue minus expenses, but IRS rule 280E says if you are engaged in illegal activity you may not deduct your expenses. Those in the marijuana business have to pay federal income tax on their total revenues, not just the profits. One expense that the IRS does not allow in these cases is taxes paid to...

Scheduling hassles

A few days ago I got a call from my cardio surgeon's office that suggested I was going to have my "procedure" much sooner than I expected. I expressed concern because it looked to me that something had gone wrong somewhere. Later, they tried to change it and I balked because I need to arrange transportation on/off the peninsula. We were at a standoff with the next available date being the next week. Fine. I'll continue to work my options. Today...

Point Hudson

I'm at Pt Hudson in Port Townsend for the week as a vacation from the SKP park. The Bennets are here, too. It's hot, and muggy. Quite unusual and uncomfortable around here. And it should stay that way all week. At least there's usually a breeze at the point.

Hospital results

The good news was not there, so I'm in for heart surgery in two weeks. Whoopee. My cardiologist has been great in understanding and accommodating my travel lifestyle. While I've reminded him that while I like my style, it is flexible by definition so he needn't get too concerned about it. But he sticks to getting everything fixed up so I can take off for the winter. . Others I met in the medical profession aren't so understanding. They have a...

A very nice day

The salmon lunch was excellent, and it was a treat to see the RV park at Whidbey Naval Air Station. The view was obscured for a while by fog, but it thinned out as the day went on and there was plenty to see. A surprise was that Steve and Sandy appeared. Well, the surprise was on me because the others had worked this out without telling me. I knew that we'd meet up sometime this summer (I think we parted company at Quartzsite), but I thought...

Back into the hospital

I go in on Wednesday for an angioplasty, the next logical step after the results from the nuclear test came in. The extent of my problem seems to be much confined, not a disaster at all. It is an overnight thing, though. I'll leave my truck at the ferry terminal on this side, and Kate will take me from the ferry to the hospital. Meanwhile, Dave and Kathy are staying on Whidbey at the Naval base, which has a very nice RV park. So I'm walking on...
