My house has wheels

A Day

Breakfast this morning was at the Hudson Point Cafe, one of the three restaurants here. Famously good food, notoriously slow service. But it's been that way for decades. Next was a run to Sequim for some grocery shopping. When I hit the point of no return I heard on the marine radio a bunch of orcas were going past the point. Dang. Oh well, there are probably more following, and they have to turn around to get out of the strait so maybe I'll...

Pt. Hudson

I'm back on my favorite dry-camping spot at the marina in downtown Port Townsend, and I'll be here for 9 days. The weather will be iffy, a lot of clouds and light rain are expected for the duration. It's nice to get a view of something other than brown storage sheds. Here I've got the entire bay and Strait, the marina and it's activity, and it's just a short bike ride downtown. Happy to be here.....

New Bike

It was time to junk my Burning Man bike for a real bike to use around the park, maybe even for some trails or something. BM bikes are typically trash that can be disposed of after a week on the playa, and mine had so many frozen bearings that it was downright dangerous. When I need another junker for BM, I'll get another cheapie. I bought it at The Recyclery, a Parks-operated program and shop here in PT that takes discarded bikes and rebuilds...

Another doc appointment

I visited my regular GP and all is good. My blood pressure is down to normal, likely due to the meds I take. He wants me to try doubling my statin dose because it might actually reverse the buildup in the arteries. I'll give it a try, but don't like taking them. So with that, all things are normal after my heart surgery, and I can concentrate on getting older and sorer.

Pot: Oregon

The state is accepting applications for the various licenses for legal cannabis. Jackson County (Ashland) is likely the most prolific grow location in the state. They estimate 3,000 grow operations in the towns, no one knows how many are in the country. Let's say 1,000, making a total of 4,000. Almost all are entitled to apply for a legal license (fees run $1,563), and will be expected to comply with regulations (about $250,000 for a small...

Pot: Paying WA state taxes by cannabis companies

Ever so quietly, businesses in the cannabis game have been accepted by banks and credit unions, so can now use those accounts to pay their Washington state taxes. The state is rapidly closing in on $1 million per day in tax revenues, and they were getting tired of dealing with nearly $30 million a month in 5s, 10s, and 20s. Since the banks are now helping, the state announced they will no longer take cash for tax payments. No doubt it's the...

Nitro

Those with heart ailments are given a supply of nitro glycerin, to be taken when angina (heart pain) comes on. I went through a controlled simulation to verify that it works for me, but have never had to take any since. I noticed that my stash had expired, so ordered up a new batch. These are rather serious pills, and I wanted to dispose of the expired pills properly, so I took them to Walgreens when I picked up my other prescriptions. I...

Hay Fever

I've been hit hard with hay fever this year, runny nose and burning eyes. Our local radio station announced last week that grass pollens were the culprit, and a large portion of folk around here are feeling it. It's lasted over a week now. My truck is now leak free and has a new radiator. I'm hoping I can stay away from the shop until I can get that paid off. The weather has been quite pleasant overall, the rhodies are blooming which is always...

Pot: Colorado has uncovered another glitch

Pueblo County in Colorado has been conducting raids on illegal cannabis grows, which is to say growing operations without licenses. It looks like Colorado pot is valuable for it's reputation on the black market in the illegal states, is closer to them physically, and it's easier to operate as a pirate within the legal environment. As always with these things, the pirate growers are usually described as "out-of-state" or "criminal organizations"...

Truck work

Last week I replaced a pair of tires (because I do every summer), which didn't fix a bouncing or hopping sensation, especially when braking. I'll work on that one tomorrow. Today I had my regular shop try to find a slow coolant leak that I've had for months now. I probably could just add water now and then and live with it, but small leaks can turn into a complete breakdown real fast. The shop found a heater hose seeping at high pressures (no...

It’s warm here

I've got 86 degrees here tonight, which sets an all-time record for April in the Seattle area. It'll cool off a bit tonight, then who knows, we may not see 86 again until July. It's still spring though and the flowers are excellent. I come up with an excuse to visit a neighbor town just to see the blooms along the way, which change every day. And, my hay fever is kicking in, but I'm used to that. (Still don't like it).

Pot: Cannabis Testing Laboratories

Washington has suspended the license for one of it's 15 marijuana testing laboratories, which is basically a death sentence for that business. Apparently, no one failed any of the tests this lab did, and no one got a failing report, which defies common sense. Since the lab was located in Poulsbo, not far from where I am in Chimacum, it served all the growers on the Olympic Peninsula, and no doubt including a bunch of the nearby Mason County...
