Here I am near Biloxi, just for an overnight before heading north to Jackson to do some genealogy research for a friend. I’m looking forward to the research, something I love to do, but have trepidations about Mississippi.
My vision of MS is of the race conflicts of the 60’s, crazy governors, cruel hangings, the evils of slavery. I’ll be going through towns I first heard about from Walter Cronkite when I was 14. Today is the 100th birthday of Rosa Parks.
I’m hauling a lot of baggage into Mississippi and hope I’ll have the opportunity to leave it behind before I leave. Delete those 50 years of memories and ideas and replace them with the latest version. Not replace, update.
