My house has wheels

Truck Projects

I’m devoting a couple of months for truck maintenance. I had a broken coolant hose connector and heater hose replaced in Idaho, now I’m doing the rest of them. Well, the hose. GM managed to blend three hoses into a single unit, which I call the Franken-hose. I got that replaced today, at surprising cost for a hose.

I’ll go in for brakes pretty soon. The factory brakes have lasted 145,000 miles, quite impressive. But I found out why: the factory pads cost $400 each. I’m going to put cheaper pads on, good for 50K miles I think, but easy to replace.

Also to do is a front-end alignment. I asked about replacing the wheel bearings and found out that means replacing the front hubs; $800 for each wheel. Hopefully I can ignore that until they fail.

It’s going to cost me a lot money, but this is all stuff that wears out or deteriorates with time and mileage. But parts are expensive.
