Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Portland, OR

When I got up this morning, the rain coming in that I’d been watching for three days seemed to have sped up a bit. I got a move on quickly to try to make it to Portland before it hit. And I just made it. Now it will rain until Thursday.

This is the first rain of the season. The last will be July 4.

I’m at Jantzen Beach on an island in the Columbia under the airport flight path, next to a railroad line, across the street from a monstrous shopping center, backed up against a busy arterial, under the interstate. Since I’ve been griping about the general sleepiness and boredom of the towns I’ve been staying in lately, I don’t feel justified complaining now.

Big-city RV parking is a pretty rare thing, and I plan on making the best of it. I’ve got a fairly large, serviceable space, and access to services is excellent. Price is not as bad as I thought it would be.

I’m here until Sunday, still undecided for the route of my escape….
