My house has wheels

Grants Pass

More than once I’ve been tempted to take 199 from Crescent City, CA to Grants Pass, OR, but wasn’t familiar with the area. So I wanted to check it out, hopefully finding a good parking place. I’m at Jumpoff Joe Creek RV park, just a few miles north of town, a very nice, quiet place that gives me an Escapee discount.

Yesterday in Yreka the smoke became very thick, casting a weird orange light on everything, and nearly stopping my solar panels. I think I might have finally driven out of range.

When there isn’t smoke, the Cascades/Siskiyus region is quite beautiful. The towns of the region aren’t so great. I guess this is no longer tourist season, which might explain the general sleepiness, but I can’t see what they have to offer even during the tourist season. Motel rooms for motorists traveling I-5, fast food, and gas.

I’m always a bit hesitant to make the I-5 run “Through The Siskiyus”. There are long miles of steep grades, curvy turns, road construction. But this morning I had times where I didn’t see another vehicle on the freeway. Me and the truckers all seemed to have the truce flag out, and my Allison (transmission) never had a run more suitable to her. Yreka to Ashland without using my brakes going down. If she were a person, I’d send flowers.

I’m here, away from the freeway noise, for two nights.
