La Pine, Oregon–on the way to Burning Man

I wanted an extra day in my travel to Burning Man in case fires delayed me or forced a long detour, but that won’t be necessary so I’ve got a day in La Pine. There is a lot to do in this area, basically the caldera of a huge volcano. This is classic Oregon high desert, it will be below 40 tonight. A nice break up in the mountains before returning to the hot Nevada desert.

As a reminder, Burning Man takes place in the Black Rock Desert in the NW corner of Nevada. Gerlach is the nearby town, Reno is about 100 miles away. My route from La Pine is to Lakeview in the SE corner of Oregon, then to Cedarville in California where I can get gas. Arrive at destination Monday. The following Monday I go to Fallon, NV for decompression and clean-up.

The weather looks good ahead of me.
