Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Settled in

I’m beginning my 8th year on the road fulltiming, and moved onto my spot today for the summer. I asked for a load of gravel to be dropped on the spot and leveled off before I parked, but I got a load and half-heartedly leveled. So it took a while to make myself a level parking spot. Normally I’m happy when I get sorta close, but I don’t want to live with my refrigerator contents spilling out for 4 months.

I already know my immediate neighbors, nice people, and was shown the location for the secret keys to get into the woodshop, the auto shop, and the landscaping equipment. Many more secrets will be revealed to me soon, now that I’m full member of the society here.

Meanwhile, Free Speech Guy has inspired a feverish discussion in the community, the local paper filled with letters. He’s upped the skirmish by offering a thousand dollar reward for the return of his stolen white boards and such.

I like this story because it promises to expose, explain, and demonstrate the nature of the (larger) community I’m in. You get to see at the micro level the idealogical, political, and economic values of the community of Port Townsend and surrounding neighborhoods.

So far, no one has a problem with his desire to speak his ideas, most think his display on the public walkway is excessive. I’m betting that it will come down to free speech in Port Townsend, but be considerate of your neighbors and others. PT will be taking the long, scenic route to get there, I’m afraid.
