Eureka

After seven months in the desert I wanted to see surf, redwoods, moss, and green. I always like Eureka mainly for it’s location for daytrips to all of the above, and each time I visit I try out another parking place. Shoreline RV is up against the Arcata marsh, but like almost all places in the region also next to US101. Rather pricey, but they have great free wifi. I’ll be here for 3 or 4 nights.

There is green around here but it is obvious that California has a water problem. Reservoirs are almost empty, there’s no snow on the mountains, the rivers are running like summer. This is the first time I’ve been on 101 in the Spring and there is no rain in the forecast. Unless the state gets an enormous amount of rain like right now, it will get ugly this year.

It’s cool here, but given that I’m going up the Pacific Coast in March that’s to be expected. On the other hand, it’s clear and sunny so I can enjoy the sights.
