The Tehachapi Loop

This is for those that like railroads. The drive up to the viewpoint over the Loop is pretty, pleasant, but not suitable for big rigs. I was lucky enough to catch a long train, quite a sight.

The Loop is a 360 degree turn of the tracks which allows a train to climb a distance in a short space. Long trains catch their tail going through it. There are other loops around, but this is a BNSF and UP mainline which makes it very busy, and accessible. Another is in the Northern Sierras.

Loops aren’t uncommon at all in the Colorado Rockies, say, to allow mining and logging trains to traverse the elevations.

It’s worth seeing.
