Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Such a Change

I’m in Tehachapi in the hills that have actual trees. The grass is green, and since this is at some elevation, it’s cooler and more Spring-like. Quite the difference from the desert floor. Wind machines are everywhere because I doubt the wind ever lets up through the pass.

The Mountain Valley RV Park has two important features that make it especially nice: It’s away from the railroad in a railroad town, and it sits on the field of the Mountain Valley Airport which is a very busy place for sailplanes. I can watch the sailplanes get towed aloft then land out my back windows. They give a lot of tours from here, and I can imagine a sailplane ride from here would be awesome.

The town is nice, carefully prettified with some decent shops, and people are super friendly. The Railroad Depot Museum is at dead center of downtown, and is an excellent first place to visit. Not so much for the collection, the artifacts, or exhibits, but for it’s story. Required before going up to see the Tehachapi Loop. It’s free, but I gave a healthy donation.

Tomorrow I’ll drive up to the Loop.
