Super Bowl

I normally don’t bother watching the Super Bowl because the games are frequently mis-matches and degraded by the silly half-time shows. But I obviously had a personal interest in this one even though I felt that the more experienced Broncos would prevail.

The Seahawks didn’t do anything unexpected, though Harvin’s “debut” was impressive. And they managed to keep the penalties under control. So Denver should have had a complete grasp on what they were up against. Could the Broncos have been suffering from hubris and delusions of “exceptionalism”?

The last championship for Seattle was in 1979, with the NBA Super Sonics, and the party then was a lot of fun. I wish I could be there this week.

My favorite commercial was Coca Cola’s “America is Beautiful” spot. It turned my head, and impressed me with it’s simple elegance. Then it hit me that there would certainly be complaints about it, and there are this morning. Remember the inane opinion expressed by W about the national anthem being sung in Spanish? I sympathize with these folks’ problem, but they should know enough not to express their foolishness to everyone.
