Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Back in Deming

I’m out of Texas! And the wind was non-existent on my driving days, which is quite remarkable.

I took Loop 375 around El Paso today, and it worked out well. I’ve never liked the I-10 route through the middle of El Paso, it being a very busy, frantic, multi-lane freeway requiring lane changes, and confusing signage. 375 will someday be what is called a Beltway in normal places, but in Texas it’s called a Loop. There is a lot of construction, 2 lanes at times, but a large portion is 4 lanes. It goes up into Franklin Mountains State Park (coming from the west) and lands on the outer eastern perimeter of El Paso. It’s a mountain pass, summit is at 5280 feet, and there are some great views from up there. That’s not said much about any Texas road. If you haven’t tried it, and have 20 or 30 minutes to spare, give it a try.

I’m at the LOWs place in Deming, and paid for 4 nights. Time to make a trip to Hatch, get a green chile cheeseburger, and avoid driving for a few days. Weather permitting, I’ll head to Tucson next.

Temperature tonight will be 20 degrees. But no wind.
