Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Decent weather

It’s been pleasant lately so I’ve been searching for birds and eating some splendid local foods of the Mexican variety. Mexican food differs a lot when you change regions: Santa Fe is different than Tex-Mex which is different than RGV. Here in the RGV I encounter the practice of offering the Gringo one menu of choices, while locals get another menu. I’ve encountered the same practice in the Asian districts of Seattle and San Francisco.

The thinking is that the valued Winter Texans have different taste choices from the local Tejanos when it comes to heat and meat varieties. That’s true, but sometimes it’s hard to communicate what I want, and I get what the server thinks will make me happy. It’s usually good, and it doesn’t happen often, but I wish they didn’t do this.

I’m moving to Arizona on Saturday. I can take doing the Quartzsite thing every other year, and I can see some friends in that area. I’m allowing 1 or 2 weeks to get there, watching the weather closely before moving. West Texas is notorious for high winds, and it can get real cold in New Mexico. I’m presuming those things will slow me down a bit.

So I have a few days before moving again, which I’m looking forward to.
