Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Plans

The tide this evening will not encroach on my parking place, being a good several inches low. I’m always a bit confused about tides on the Gulf: where I come from tides are measured in feet, several in some cases, but the Gulf measures it in inches. Nonetheless, a “high” tide of 8 inches can cover a lot of land.

Anyway, up on Mustang Island where I really wanted to camp out and do some beach driving, it’s a different story. Mustang is lower than Padre (we’re talking about a foot or two) so it’s much wetter and the beaches are more prone to flooding. As it is the beaches are in pretty bad shape for driving: rough and wash-boarded, with soft dry sand-holes.

So the conditions here (wind, tides, beaches) and the forecast (wind, rain, cold) say I’ll head to Harlingen on Thursday. I’ll still get the weather this weekend, but it will be warmer. I’ll be there for a month at least.
