Balmorhea State Park

I’m still in west Texas but I can see the Davis mountains now. Still a long haul to Hill Country.

Balmorhea is an old CCC park built around a warm, perpetual spring. It’s a good spot in the desert for birds, and quite comfy.

My plan is to use state parks a lot this trip, so I bought an annual pass for $70. That covers ten daily admission fees which I will easily use. But I was surprised to learn it also included 2 free nights camping, worth about $40. Not a bad deal at all. I’ll have it paid for in no time.

I’m here for two nights, next destination unknown. I’m trying to get to Hondo, outside San Antonio.
