The Pink Store

Palomas has a border crossing, a pharmacy, and the Pink Store. And some dentists and such. Pretty much what every wintering RV’r needs, and pretty much limited to serving those RV’rs staying in Deming. The Pink Store itself sells Mexican cultural items and has a restaurant. They are notable in that they serve free margaritas to everyone who comes shopping.

Tuesdays are the LOWs day, with a convoy assembling here to have lunch at the restaurant. Other RV groups have similar arrangements, but the LOWs are likely the biggest and most consistent group. Today was Tuesday, and it’s the annual rally, so the group was especially big.

I guess there were about a hundred of us, maybe more. The restaurant was prepared, everyone could order off the menu, free margaritas to a point, the food was good, delivered quickly, and live music. Everything worked liked clockwork, no one was left unhappy. All got a little take-home souvenir, and all won a door prize (I won a bottle of tequila, Trisha won a very nice set of earrings).

For a funky-looking store painted pink in a tiny Mexican border town, this place is surprisingly organized and competent in what they do. It was a lot of fun.

Now, the prices are familiar to the US customers, no breaks because you are in Mexico. And the food can be found better and cheaper in Deming. But they make an experience of going 30 miles to an otherwise unremarkable Mexican town.
