Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Espanola, New Mexico

I took the state road through the mountains until I came into Georgia O’Keeffe country, surely one of the prettiest places in the US. No one else on the road so I could meander and enjoy the views.

My timing was to hit Abiquiu so I could lunch at Bode’s General Store, known for their Green Chile Cheesburger. My first GCC in two years, and my trip south to Deming is planned around 6 or 7 places that contend for the best in New Mexico.

The Chapman’s are here and we’ll likely get together tomorrow. Jim and Nance are just ahead of me, attending the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque which started today. I got within a hundred miles of them last year on the east coast, but a hurricane got in the way. Hope to see them this time.

There aren’t a lot of choices for parking in this part of NM. The RV park I’m in isn’t fit for it’s intended purpose and should probably just be closed down. Nearby government places were, of course, closed. The next best alternatives are casino parking lots. There doesn’t seem to be any interest in tourism around here.

It will be very cold tonight, I’m sucking juice for heat, but expect the “park” will blow a breaker tonight. It will be interesting to see what they charge when I can’t find the sewer, the electrical isn’t working, and water pipes are frozen.
