Dusty in Yuma

High winds have the dust up, with visibility down to almost zero at times. This will last a couple of days, mornings being the best to go out and about.

I went shopping for glasses in Algodones today, and found there weren’t any really good deals. Despite there being dozens of eyeglass shops there, they all use the same price list from Algodones Optical, the only game in town. I think the Mexican businesses have figured out they were giving us too good a deal, and don’t bother bargaining anymore.

I noticed the number of new cars on the streets, and remember how entertaining the Mexican vehicles used to be. The police were gently shooing the beggars away from their usual spots. The shrimp taco guy has an assistant. The police have new vehicles with snazzy paintjobs, and new uniforms.

I guess I’m glad to see them doing well…

  1. Thanks for the update on Algodones. Glad the shrimp taco guy has an assistant…he needs a break. Got some new glasses in Texas for the same price I paid in Algodones a few years ago…except I had to pay for the eye exam.
