Marty's Travels

My house has wheels

Yuma

There was no headwind and no dust. That’s the best that can be said for any drive on I-8 through the big desert to Yuma. The desert was green, but no wildflowers this year. I’ll be here at least a week, parked at the VFW/BLM site.

Last year when I was in Arizona the legislature was debating a bill to create a state militia. To me the motivation was obvious (Take our country “back” from the brown people), but of course the bill was not worded that way. I had wondered what happened to that, and then I hear this trip they are still working on it. Turns out Arizona already had a militia law. (Hmmm.) All males aged 18-45 are eligible. But wait, that’s not what the originators had in mind, so there is a proposal to modify the law so it’s all males 18-125 (or something). My guess, and it’s only a guess, is that the few interested in joining such a thing were not eligible. And I doubt any women complained.

Most western states have posse laws, though they are seldom used any more. Discipline, control, accountability, and liability are just a few of the reasons these are relegated to social/fan/festival status nowadays.

If the effort is a success, I hope the FBI stays on top of these guys….
