Pot: Washington State

Last year the licenses for retail stores were issued before there was any product available from the licensed growers. This led to the situation of a supply deficit, which ran up the prices.

The Liquor Board responded by issuing grower licenses twice as fast, which wouldn’t do a thing for that year. Of course adding retail stores would be nonsense with no supply.

Soon, though, the growers had product ready and ever since December the supply had grown steadily, and the prices decreased. That is cannabis that has been grown indoors.

Now the outdoor harvest is ready and there will be a lot of marijuana on the market. Some folk are guessing 400% of the required amount. At any rate, it will be nuts when the glut hits the street.

Here in Port Townsend the vetted applicant for the sole retail store license finally opened a store this week. He’s had the rights to the license for a year, but couldn’t do the build-out until now. The state allocates licenses by community, and they choose to name a monopoly in PT.

I won’t be here when the stuff hits the streets, but can watch easily via the internet.
