Prohibitions: Always interesting to go to Walmart in Pahrump

While prostitution is legal in Nevada, it is prohibited in Clark County, which means Las Vegas. A better way to make a black market I can’t imagine.

But Pahrump is in Nye county and it’s not prohibited, and is the closest (around 60 miles) to Vegas. Buses run back and forth between Vegas and Pahrump to visit the two big brothels here in town. Each has about 20 cribs (an old term common in the west), plus the usual bar, kitchen, etc. Very, very expensive places. And then there’s the black market in town.

So a visit to the walmart is likely to be quite surprising when you encounter certain shoppers. Sometimes I stop in shock and awe, other times it’s sheer admiration. You never know who will appear in your aisle.

From what I can determine on the internet, a visitor from Vegas should probably have $1500 available to spend in Pahrump. That’s around 15 million a month coming in, not all that much. Marijuana in Colorado and Washington brings in about 60 million.

So it’s not a great economic driver, but it does liven up the walmart experience.
