Pot: Legal crap

I watched another hearing in Olympia as the WA legislature processes three bills that address the medical marijuana problem in the state. Those bills do address the problem, the legislature seems inclined to pass one of them, and the governor will sign whichever law is written. That’s good.

But no matter which bill passes, the medical marijuana people are going to have a problem: only a very few are going to qualify for licenses, and those involved in the system will be subject to some very onerous restrictions.

Colorado is considering similar actions, but for the opposite reason. They are happy with the retail regulatory system and want the medical system, the legacy of the retail system, to go away. To move over to the regulated model.

Oregon is in the development phase of regulations. I’m a tad concerned when the Liquor Board formed up a steering committee and about a dozen sub-committees to deal with issues. Oregon gets bogged down easily in bureaucracy, and I don’t like it when I see them forming committees.

Watching laws being made is really sad….
