After seven years of eating rocks in Quartzsite, and the many alkali sand storms at Burning Man, I was running out of visibility in my truck. So today I had it replaced, which is surprisingly cheap and easy. Now I'll be able to see the scenery again. Tomorrow I get a couple of truck tires, and rotate one of the most unbalanced tire and wheel combinations I've ever seen to the rear. After balancing it as closely as possible.
A few days ago I started sleeping through most of the night since the surgery, and that does wonders for recovery. I have a useful walking range now, and a lot more arm action is possible. But, putting my arms backwards still causes pain. I just work around stuff I can't do, and seem to be getting along just fine. Walmart finally delivered today the last of the prescriptions I got when I exited the hospital. They had some backorder issues, you...
Washington State has 164 retail marijuana shops this week, compared to a half dozen a year ago. There are 458 licensed growers, most of which will be delivering their product into the retail market for the first time this month. Sales (I use "out-the-door" prices which includes the excise taxes) last month were $60 million dollars. Compare to Colorado at $64 million, but they can measure the medical market, which Washington can't. Prices in...
It's a challenge to name something with a bigger influence on cannabis laws than Hempfest, for 24 years now protesting marijuana prohibition. It runs this weekend in Seattle, along the waterfront; figure on hundreds of thousands attendees over the entire weekend. The irony of legal marijuana in Washington will not be lost at Hempfest: While there it is illegal to sell or gift marijuana, or consume it. Now, for 24 years these laws have been...
Lifting anything significant is still out of the plan, but I can get up and do things for a few hours every day. Then, it's resting for the rest of the day. By far the worst discomfort is my left thumb, which explodes in an electrical shock if I use it wrong. This is caused by the cut nerves when taking out the artery, there is nothing to do about it, and it will heal itself in a while. Otherwise I'm even skipping the tylenol now. No real pain,...
I'm still sore all over, so sitting all day during our annual meeting wasn't real high on my list of things to do. But I survived, and the club seems to have survived, so I guess all is well. The kids came over this last weekend, and I've been getting a lot of hands to help out, mainly lifting and toting things. Tomorrow I go into Seattle to have a check and likely a discharge from the surgeon. In general, I'm feeling better every day....
Sleep seems to be the ticket for recovery. I felt great this morning, took a short drive, and extended my walk to the clubhouse. More sleep tonight....
I've seen a lot of notes and got a lot of emails wishing me the best, which I appreciate. Folk are being nice, so thank you all for the nice comments. Today I doubled my walking distance, and went for a ride with Grace from the park to pick up a prescription. I'm supposed to stay active, practice walking, etc. Fine, but then I get a nap to recover. A few years ago a friend of mine, Howie, encountered a serious disease that required long and...
I was up at 2AM making breakfast, and having dinner at 5AM, but got some sleep, a shower, and took a (very tiny) walk. The hallucinations have receded, and tonight Kathy brought me a posole dinner. Dave took out my garbage. Grace is standing by for rides or something. So I'm getting lots of help. Not much to worry about as my mobility range is measured in feet, not miles. That will change fast, I'm not having much pain at all. Thanks, everyone.
What I need the most right now is sleep. Schedules at the hospital were for 24, 12, 6, 4, 2, and every hour, meaning it's impossible to stay asleep for any length of time. It will take a few nights of quiet to get back on schedule. Most folks' bodies need extra sleep after surgery anyway. Since I'm missing a vein and artery in my legs, I've got to do some walking to reform those. Meanwhile my prescriptions haven't come in yet, but when they do...
While the surgeon allowed me to leave this morning, my two trusted nurses wanted me to wait another day while I became more mobile. I respect their opinion (thanks Sarah and Hannah). Besides, I see Donald Trump is running around loose out there; dangerous situation....
