When the weather is good I go for a drive to some nearby place just to see the mountains, the bays, the Spring flowers, and the unusual shops scattered here and there around the Peninsula. Port Angeles (“PA”) is where ships from the seven seas must stop to pick up a pilot who knows the waters through the Strait, through the San Juans, into Seattle and Tacoma, and into Canadian waters.<\/p>\n
PA’s history is logging, fishing, timber mills, fish processors, flophouses for seamen, brothels, and bars. Now it’s scents and soaps, coffee places, chain restaurants, big box stores, antique stores, retirement housing. The Peninsula used to be “rough”, now it’s tourist. I would like more of the rough around here, at least one place that still retains the old character. [There is one place that does retain some of the character, but I’m not saying where it is].<\/p>\n
