The drive up to the viewpoint over the Loop is pretty, pleasant, but not suitable for big rigs.  I was lucky enough to catch a long train, quite a sight.<\/p>\n<p>The Loop is a 360 degree turn of the tracks which allows a train to climb a distance in a short space.  Long trains catch their tail going through it.  There are other loops around, but this is a BNSF and UP mainline which makes it very busy, and accessible.  Another is in the Northern Sierras.<\/p>\n<p>Loops aren&#8217;t uncommon at all in the Colorado Rockies, say, to allow mining and logging trains to traverse the elevations.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth seeing. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is for those that like railroads.
