Still a long haul to Hill Country.<\/p>\n<p>Balmorhea is an old CCC park built around a warm, perpetual spring.  It&#8217;s a good spot in the desert for birds, and quite comfy.<\/p>\n<p>My plan is to use state parks a lot this trip, so I bought an annual pass for $70.  That covers ten daily admission fees which I will easily use.  But I was surprised to learn it also included 2 free nights camping, worth about $40.  Not a bad deal at all.  I&#8217;ll have it paid for in no time.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m here for two nights, next destination unknown.
